ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Congress delegates are invited to submit abstracts of their scientific work for poster presentation at the XII International Congress of Pediatric Laboratory Medicine (ICPLM) 2011. Each registered delegate is entitled to submit a maximum of 3 abstracts as presenting author.
Abstracts can be submitted on all fields of Pediatric Laboratory Medicine. Presentation is predominantly by poster. A limited number of abstracts will be selected for an oral presentation. Authors wishing to compete for these oral communication slots should mark the appropriate field on the on-line abstract submission form. Properly submitted abstracts will be sent to experts for review and selection for oral communication.
The abstracts will be published as a supplement of Clinical Biochemistry.
Each abstract will get a DOI number which means they can be cited
Poster Awards
Five poster awards in the amount of 500 Euro each will be given. This will include one award for best poster submitted by an attendee, one for best poster abstract selected for oral presentation, one for best poster by young faculty (<40y ) and two for best poster submitted by a trainee.
Structure of the Abstract
Abstracts must be prepared as Word document. Abstracts should be structured and must include:
- Background: A brief introduction stating the purpose of the investigation and its relevance to pediatric laboratory medicine
- Methods: A description of the methodology(ies) used
- Results: A concise report of the results, supported by statistical or other evidence to show their validity
- Conclusion: The conclusions drawn from the study.
The body of the abstract should not exceed 250 words.

Deadline for receipt
Abstracts must be submitted before 28 February 2011, 18:30 Berlin time.
Anyway, earlier submission of abstracts is welcome.
Confirmation of receipt
Receipt of the abstracts will be acknowledged by numbered e-mail immediately after submission.
Notification of acceptance or rejection
Authors will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their abstracts after 15th March 2011.
Registration
Anyone presenting an abstract (no more than 3 as a presenting author) must register for the Congress and pay the appropriate fee.
HOW TO PREPARE AND SEND IN AN ABSTRACT
It is important to carefully follow the instructions indicated below. Incorrectly prepared abstracts will be rejected.
IMPORTANT: Do not send in an abstract more than once!
Abstracts can be submitted by the Internet only using the on-line web form. Abstracts must be prepared offline in advance since you will be asked to upload a complete file at step 2 of the online abstracts submission procedure. Abstracts must be prepared as Word documents as follows:
Word version: MS Word for Windows version 2000 (.doc) or later.
Font: Arial; 8pt
Title: the title should be brief and specific; please do not use abbreviations. Use bold font and capital
Authors: authors’ names must be written in plain font and must start with the initial(s) to be followed by the second names (e.g. J. Green). The author presenting the abstract at the congress must be underlined. Each author must indicate department, institution, town and country (no country abbreviation before postal code). Please indicate the E-mail address of the corresponding author at the bottom of the abstract. In case of more than one affiliation, it is necessary to add superscript numbers to each author name and precede each affiliation with the corresponding superscript number. NB: do not start a new line with a new affiliation!
Body of the abstract: the body of the abstract should not exceed 250 words, (approximately 1500 characters, spaces included). Please note that the word and characters count of the BODY of the abstract does not include title, authors’ names and affiliations. The text must be left justified and single-spaced. Paragraphs and indentations must be avoided. “Background”, “Methods”, “Results” and “Conclusions” must each start on a new line.
Abbreviations: use standard abbreviations only. When you use non-standard abbreviations, spell out the full word at first mentioning and insert the abbreviation in parentheses. Then use the abbreviation consistently.
